Hold Norge Rent, True North and Troms Nature and Youth invite you to City Clean‑Up Day in Tromsø on Saturday 9 May, from 10:00 to 12:00.

Measured by weight, 70–80 per cent of the plastic in the ocean has been transported from land via rivers and coastlines. Litter from land ends up in the sea in many different ways: items fall out of overflowing bins, are carried away by the wind or by birds, drop out of our pockets, and more. Coastal areas are particularly vulnerable because there is such a short distance between urban spaces and the shoreline.

In inland cities and towns, litter can disappear from street level, for example through stormwater, into drains and then directly into nearby rivers. From there, the waste travels onwards to the sea.

That is why it is important to keep our city clean and free from litter. By cleaning up cities and towns, we help ensure a clean coastline and a clean ocean.

After the clean‑up, we will gather at Strandtorget in the city centre from 12:00 to 16:00, where Nature and Youth (Natur og Ungdom) will host the NU Festival. There will be concerts, a banner‑painting workshop, food and talks. The event is, of course, free of charge.

The city clean‑up starts at 10:00 in the various neighbourhoods, while the event at Strandtorget runs from 12:00 to 16:00.

Join us for a friendly and social day where, together, we will remove litter from urban areas before it ends up in the ocean.

To help us organise and prevent food waste, we ask everyone attending to sign up via the registration link: Byryddedagen Tromsø 2026
