Lack of housing should not be a reason for young people to leave Tromsø or the region. Young voices shall be heard in the housing debate.
As European Youth Capital 2026, Tromsø has a unique opportunity to explore new youth-driven solutions to systemic challenges affecting young people in the north—particularly related to housing, work and belonging. This initiative will bring together youth, the municipality, businesses and research environments to explore and test new solutions.
Activities include workshops and Policy Labs with decision-makers and developers, conferences and debates, as well as collaboration with research environments.
Goals:
- Identify challenges and opportunities related to youth housing needs in Tromsø and Northern Norway, in collaboration with youth and public/private actors.
- Strengthen collaboration between youth, decision-makers and businesses to create lasting solutions.
Activities:
- Youth, Home & Place in a Changing Climate
- Urban planning conference “Hjerterom for byrom”
- Youth Housing Initiative
- Area- and Community-‑based Development in City Districts
- Policy Lab: Housing
- And much more!
